Agriculture Supported Communities Invert CSA Concept

In food desert communities that can barely support themselves, traditional community supported agriculture (CSA) programs often struggle with balancing the need for the farmer to make a living wage and the need for low-cost food. The Agriculture Supported Communities (ASC) program at the Rodale Institute turns the CSA format on its head and tears down the perception that fresh, high-quality organic foods are only for the well-to-do. It also provides a viable model for new or established farmers who want to enter these underserved markets.

2500 Scientists Reject Attacks on Clean Air Act

WASHINGTON (February 9, 2011) - More than 2,500 U.S. scientists sent a letter to members of Congress today urging them to reject legislation that would undermine an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) finding under the Clean Air Act that heat-trapping emissions are altering the climate and endangering public health.

Sierra Club Names 100 Greenest Colleges

Sierra Club judged the schools based on 11-page questionnaires sent to 900 colleges and universities (and returned by 162).  

Green Mountain College, the top scorer with 88 points, also showed well in the other nine other categories were considered: efficiency, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, administration, financial investments and “other initiatives."

EPA Awards Over $130,000 to the Railroad Commission of Texas

(Dallas, Texas – October 6, 2009) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded $138,975 to the Railroad Commission of Texas. The funds will be used by the Commission to perform mechanical integrity tests on Class III injection wells, and provide technical, drilling, completion, and reporting assistance to injection well operators in the State of Texas.
