The vital connections between food and the environment will be a major theme of the 18th annual Festival scheduled for March 16 through 28, 2010.
"What's On Your Plate?" explores the origins of our food and promotes healthy, sustainable options; "e-2 Transport: Food Miles" advises how to reduce the environmental impact of transporting food across the globe; "Dirt! The Movie" tells the story of Earth's most valuable and underappreciated source of fertility; "Seed Hunter" considers the key role ancient seeds could play in a world impacted by global warming; "Terra Madre" explores Italy's Slow Food movement; "HomeGrown" spotlights an off-the-grid organic family farm in Pasadena, California; and "Nora!" tells the story of Nora Pouillon, founder of Washington's Restaurant Nora, America's first certified organic restaurant.
Other highlights of the 2010 Festival will include: acclaimed writer, naturalist and explorer Peter Matthiessen speaking on the future of the Arctic; "Garbage Dreams," about the impact of globalization on Cairo's Zabbaleen garbage collectors; "Africa's Lost Eden" about saving Mozambique's Gorongosa National Park; "So Right So Smart" documenting the business case for environmental stewardship; "Split Estate," an eye-opening account of the issues raised when landowners have no claim to the resources below their soil; and winners from the 2009 Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival.
